Katie has always been interested in fitness and has taken her own health seriously, participating in everything from dance, group fitness classes and weight lifting to local races and avid bike riding with her husband Peter.
While attending MSU she stumbled upon her first yoga class, taking it for an easy 2 credits. Much to her dismay she was hooked. Now 11 years into her own yoga practice and certifications from Core Power Yoga (Yoga Alliance) and Ultra Barre, she continues to reap the health benefits while enjoying the mind and body connection.

Growing up in Montana I have always been interested in anything outdoors from camping, hiking and floating down rivers to long road trips though the mountains and countryside, just enjoying the views of this beautiful state. Living a healthy lifestyle is something I have always done, participating in dance and sports throughout school and eventually spending 5 years working at the Billings Family YMCA participating in a variety of group fitness classes. I have been practicing yoga for the past 4 years and am now a certified Core Power Yoga Instructor. Yoga has transformed me, both mentally and physically, and I would not be the person I am today without this practice. I believe everyone should practice yoga daily whether it be 10 mins or an hour. It is incredible how yoga can calm the mind and focus your attention, bringing a new awareness to your mind, body, and soul. Through the proper connection of your breath to the movement of your body you feel empowered and I love leading both new students and seasoned yogis through this amazing practice.
Jen is a Billings native and has been active and into fitness for over 35 years. She started early in her young life running local races with her dad and learned the value of fitness and healthy living and evolved that into her lifestyle. Jen's interest really piqued from an individual focus (single person sports- yes she played college basketball) into group based focus when she was attending college in Minnesota and did an internship for her Community Fitness degree at General Mills—learning group fitness and wellness coaching. From there she began her group fitness journey-teaching step aerobics, boot -camp and lifting classes, kickboxing, cycling, yoga, and small group fitness classes. She has also taken this passion into her full time job as a Health Enhancement teacher at West High school for the last 23 years. She has the AFAA certification and the Yoga Alliance 200+Sumits Hot Yoga certification as well as Ultra Barre certified. She believes in finding something physical that works for you and making it fun, positive, and beneficial to not only your body but your mind as well will ensure longevity with active living. Each person has a choice each and every day and choosing to be healthy, happy and active with a powerful passion can greatly improve a person’s overall level of health wellness.
Wendy has been an AFAA certified group fitness instructor for 8 years and has been teaching yoga for the last 3 with a 200+ hour Yoga Alliance certification and is Ultra Barre certified. While she tends to favor power vinyasa flow and shape focused classes, Wendy loves teaching AND taking any and all classes in the hot room and is thrilled to be a part of the Black Orchid family. When not practicing or teaching she loves on her two young sons, runs as much as her old legs allow, and sprinkles adequate doses of sarcasm across the land.
Alexis Bonogofsky has been practicing yoga since 2010 and has been teaching since early 2014. She was trained and certified to teach by Tony Sanchez under the Bishnu Ghosh hatha yoga lineage. In her classes she focuses on proper alignment, steady breathing and cultivating a sustainable yoga practice that helps people of all levels become stronger and more flexible in the body and cultivate concentration and discipline for the mind. She believes that the most advanced yogi is not the most flexible or the strongest but the one who is able to control their breath. She loves to teach beginners as well as students exploring more advanced postures.
Tara Williamson is a Montanan native who practiced yoga for ten years in Portland, OR. After having traveled around the world for a year practicing yoga in Africa, Russia, Thailand, Mongolia, and the Czech Republic, she returned to her Montanan roots. She is the Program Administrator of a local non profit overseeing programs that support children and families and is interested in the benefits of yoga for people who have experienced trauma. Having had back surgery when she was younger and a broken back after a rock climbing incident several years ago, Tara is also invested in the restorative effects of yoga. Tara has been practicing yoga for fifteen years and is now a certified Corepower Yoga Instructor.
Karen is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor with 29 years experience helping others achieve their personal goals of health, wellness and success. Karen is very passionate about helping people of all ages and abilities develop a desire to move their body and embrace health. Karen received her yoga training with one of the world’s most respected authorities on Hatha Yoga, Tony Sanchez, through the Yogic Physical Culture Academy. Karen is also an AAFA Certified Personal Trainer and an AFSA Group Fitness Instructor and has taught at the graduate level at Montana State University. She believes in helping others achieve success through the balance of mind, body and spirit. Karen is enthusiastic, energetic, and loves to see what people can achieve when given guidance, support and encouragement to pursue and fulfill their life goals.
Hi I am Sara, a Yoga Instructor and student of yoga. I received my 200 hour Yoga Teacher training in 2014 in Hawaii on the island of Oahu at the Hawaii Yoga Institute. I was certified in Multi-style, Hatha, and Vinyasa Yoga. I follow the practice of good health, physically, mentally and spiritually through my practice of Yoga. My life is yoga, yoga is my life! The practice of Yoga makes me happy and calm while allowing me to get through difficult situations in my life as well as the good ones! Yoga allows me to be more aware of my body, with balance strength and increase in flexibility as well as mind and spirit while incorporating the awareness of breath. The practice of awareness of the breath allows us to focus and stay calm. I enjoy teaching and guiding those who wish to become more self aware of their body, mind and breath. I have been practicing yoga for 11 years and teaching for two years. My personal experience in yoga has involved practicing multi style yoga from; Hatha, Ashtanga, Restorative, Vinyasa, & heated yoga. I enjoy teaching and being able to share the knowledge of yoga with others not just the physical aspect, but also the spiritual aspect. I encourage everyone to try yoga and welcome all students; from new, beginner, intermediate and advanced!
Lisa Martinez has been involved in fitness and healthy living for over 20 years. She was running races with her mom at a young age and playing basketball, volleyball and track since 5th grade. She has been a cycle instructor for over 10 years and loves outdoor biking. After marathons and triathlons, she wanted to help more people reach their goals. She received her AFAA group training certificate and starting teaching other fitness classes. This opened her to becoming the Cross Country coach at Billings Central High School.
"There was something missing in my fitness life, that's where Black Orchid came in. People are so stressed, busy, our workouts are intense and demanding and then they are done. Very little stretching and that is so important. Slowing down, letting your mind relax and taking deep breaths and really taking time for you is crucial." Lisa recently became Ultra Barre certified and teaches Sports Barre. Finally, she loves sharing this healthy lifestyle with her husband and three kids!
Tania has been a teacher for over 20 years. She has taught many things; ballet, swimming, preschool, elementary school, college courses, and of course yoga. She has been practicing yoga for over 15 years and teaching yoga for six years. She earned her 200+ RYT certification from Yogamotion. Tania believes that our health and happiness is in our hands. Thus, her relationship with yoga. Tania‘s classes focus on doing what is best for each of our bodies. Tania uses various flows to help each of her students achieve optimal health and happiness. Tania believes that yoga is magical and is super excited to share her practice with you!
